PDX Card Jam 2009
We're happy to say that the PDX Card Jam 2009 is well under way!
Thanks for participating!
Additions
There is a new template for the "Card Selection Screen" named card_selection.
This layout is how your deck will be arranged in-game while the player is selecting the deck they wish to use.
So if your deck depends on this layout, you might want to download card_selection and arrange your designs before
throwing them back into the card_sheet template.
Your final submission should still be sent using the card_sheet template since that is how the game reads
the cards before displaying them on the screen.

FAQ
- Q: What are the "Bases" in the template file?
- A: They will be used to mark areas of the playing table where you can place cards. They will be covered (or uncovered) with cards.
- Q: How should I work?
- A: It is totaly up yo you. We suggest using the "blank_card.psd" file to do all your original work. It is 2.5 x 3.5 inches at 300dpi. It can then be shrunk to fit the "card_sheet.psd" layout. But working large will enable you to print out the cards at a decent resolution in the future.
- Q: Do I have to do all the layout work?
- A: No. If you wish you can send us the file you've created from the "blank_card.psd" file in layers and we will lay it out for you. Make sure you have each card in a single layer.
- Q: I don't use computers in my art. Can I get some help?
- A: Yes. Just email us: join_in@tinderboxentertainment.com. Let us know what kind of medium you work in and we will schedule a time to get together and get your art in the game.
- Q: Do I have to design each card in the deck?
- A: No, but we hope you do! Design as much as you like and any missing cards will be filled in with the standard playing cards design. Participants should expect to finish designing the face cards and card back as a minimum requirement before submission.
- Q: Do I have to use Photoshop?
- A: No. We have included a set of jpg and png templates as well for artists who use other programs. However, when you submit your final version to us, the file should be a Photoshop (psd) or a png file. Both preserve transparency.
- Q: What kinds of restrictions do I have to observe?
- A: None from us. Create what you would like to be shown. However, here are the ratings for the Xbox Indie Games Rating System. Any content over a rating of 3 will probably not be approved by the Xbox community.
- Q: Do I still own the rights to my work?
- A: Yes. You are only granting Tinderbox the right to use your work for this one project. If we decide that we would like to use the same work in a future project, we will renegotiate with you.
- Q: Who decides what cards will be selected for the game?
- A: All artists can expect their "deck" to be selected for the game. There is limited space available for this project and in the event we receive more submissions than can be handled, we will have an online vote to determine the submissions that will make it. Voting will be open to all artists who submit a "deck". We will email everyone if such an event is necessary.
- Q: Will I get paid if my submission is used in the game?
- A: No. This event is about featuring Portland area artists and exploring a new venue for artists to get their work seen by a larger audience for free. Participants will have their name and web address displayed during the card selection screen.
- Q: Will you be selling this game?
- A: Yes. The game will be available for purchase on the Xbox Game Marketplace's Indie Games area for 80 Microsoft Points ($1.00 US). This is the minimum that Microsoft allows. We are also looking into making the game available for the PC via our website for no charge.
- Q: Will I get a copy of the game?
- A: Yes. We will provide you with a final version of the game so you can add it to your body of work and share it with whoever you like.
- Q: Will you have another jam in the future?
- A: Future jams will be initiated depending on the success of this event.
